On September 1 on my way to Poland I was delayed by Nazi Rallies. My experience touring all around Germany has been so positive and I feel we cannot let scapegoat idiocracy destroy our liberty. With the rise of anti-Semitism it is urgent to sing about these issues in a new/old way. On Oct 26 I finished the recording and unplugged for Shabbat. Saturday night I turned the TV back on to the horror of that morning in Pittsburgh. It is my hope and belief that music can bring us the power of grace over the rise of hatred.

Recorded from Christmas to New Year’s in 1993/4 with multi Grammy and Oscar winning Craig Krampf in the dummer’s and producer’s chair. This first self titled CD earned much acclaim including the fastest selling CD on Philo/Rounder out of the box, GLAAD Award for best album of 1994 (Elton John preceeding years’ recipient) and Mix Magazine’s Top 25 of 1994 just behind Elvis Costello. This dram-sical is a dramatic play with songs. The story was written by Jody Nusholtz and the songs were written by Sonia Rutstein. Liz finds herself at 40 years old a successful advertising executive yet lonely for real love. Many secrets are revealed this one thanksgiving when a former lesbian lover shows up at Liz’s cousins house. Humorous, scandalous and delicious!

While traveling from Germany into a Poland September 1 2019 I was faced with detours due to the Nazi parades in varies small cities along the eastern part of Germany. My whole premise to visit Poland was to discover my past. The ugliness of these demonstrations reminded me that the propaganda of fear is alive and kicking and prompted me to write new songs addressing anti semitism of yesterday and today. And also to acknowledge that Germany as a whole culture has grown and leaned from her mistakes. I recorded several jewish popular prayers and Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”

Award-winning American-born singer/songwriter SONiA Rutstein composes 12 songs in Spanish, Hebrew, Arabic, and English creating a Latin-Middle Eastern folk-pop sound. True to her lifelong cause of a world without fear, these songs weave political trials of love and romance next to heartfelt political ideologies. The songs combine the indigenous sounds of djembes, tin whistles, violins, and acoustic guitars, and resonate with the harmonies of disappear fear. Making guest appearances are Rabbi Elizabeth Bolton and members of the original disappear fear band. Lyrics are included in a colorful 24-page booklet written in all four languages and illustrated with SONiA's original paintings.

The very first CD by disappear fear. Echo My Call was the number one album of the year at Baltimore’s Towson University Radio WCVT. The song Vertigo about the incident at Chernobyl was also number on their DJ charts which gave the band national/international buzz interest on and led to their first Publishing deal in London and New York with Carlin/Freedy Bienstock Publishing. SONiA sent a copy to the President Mikail Gorbachev commending his glasnost and peristroika world move and in turn the whole album became an undergound hit in the reformation of Russia.

Me, Too was recorded in Baltimore as a joint venture between SONiA and multi-instrumentalist John Grant.
